Q: What does the name Junoflo mean?

Junoflo: My English name is Sam. In high school there are a lot of people with the same names so I write Juno as my nickname which has the same name as my real name Juno. Junoflo is the combination of Juno with an important hiphop element Flow

Q: What inspired you to start rap?

Q: อะไรคือแรงบันดาลใจที่ทำให้เริ่มแรป?

Junoflo: I’ve been listening to hip-hop music ever since I was young. Especially 50Cent and Eminem. In fact, the first CD I bought was Linkin Park. The combination between Rap and Rock was really good. I started writing rap lyrics in high school and in the first year of college I had record my first song. One of my friends who lived in dormitory suggested that I should record my lyrics with beat. I uploaded my finished work on SoundCloud and Facebook. It was better than I thought so I bought equipment and started making music

Junoflo: ผมฟังเพลงฮิปฮอปมาตั้งแต่ผมเด็กๆแล้วครับ โดยเฉพาะ 50Cent และ Eminem จริงๆแล้ว ซีดีเพลงแผ่นแรกที่ผมซื้อคือ Linkin Park การผสมผสานกันระหว่าง Rap และ Rock มันดีมากเลยครับ ผมเริ่มเขียนเนื้อแรปตอนที่ผมอยู่มัธยมปลายและก็ได้เริ่มอัดเพลงครั้งแรกตอนที่ผมอยู่มหาวิทยาลัยชั้นปีที่1 เพื่อนผมคนนึงที่หอพักแนะนำผมว่า ผมควรอัดเนื้อเพลงกับจังหวะ ผมได้อัพโหลดงานที่เสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้วลงบน SoundCloud และ Facebook มันออกมาดีกว่าที่ผมคิดไว้มาก ผมเลยเริ่มซื้ออุปกรณ์และทำเพลงอย่างจริงจังครับ

 

Q: So you have been active under-scenes since then?

Junoflo:  The United States is already defined by the majors, and other musicians are underground. I don’t know whether it is right to express that I was working in the US underground because it feels different from Korea where under scenes are concentrated in one place. After all, I constantly worked on music, published mixed tapes, and performed in concerts at universities. I also formed

a three-member hip-hop group called "Native Souls" with close friends.

Q: The music style you are pursuing?

Junoflo: I think the most important thing in rap is flow, voice tone, and lyrics. I personally like jazz hip-hop very much. I have often listened to music such as Sound Providers, Specifics, A Tribe Called Quest, Nujabes. The lyrics with jazz hip hop peculiar deep message were good. I am pursuing music that matches the mainstream these days, but I still have the feeling of listening to the music of jazz hip-hop musicians.

Q: You’ve applied for Show Me The Money 5 last year?

Junoflo: Two years after graduating from college, I work with my parent and alongside with music. My parents work about fashion in downtown L.A. If I keep learning that work, I could earn a lot of money but as I grow up my passion for music grown up too. After all,

I decided to do music and quit my job. At that point, I heard a TV show called 'Show Me Money' will be held in LA. In fact, I had no idea of rapping in Korea until then. There were no Hangul lyrics ever written by this poor Korean like me. I had a lot of problems, but decided to get a new experience, and decided to take part in the show. After a month of Korean dramas, movies, and news, I studied Korean and went to Show Me the Money.

Junoflo: 2 ปีหลังจากที่ผมเรียนจบผมได้ช่วยพ่อแม่ทำงานและผมเองก็ทำเพลงไปด้วย พ่อแม่ของผมทำงานเกี่ยวกับแฟชั่นในตัวเมือง LA ถ้าผมได้เรียนรู้งานนั้นผมคงทำเงินได้มากเลยล่ะ แต่ยิ่งโตมาความสนใจที่ผมมีให้เพลงก็มีมากขึ้น ในที่สุดผมก็ตัดสินใจทำงานดนตรีและลาออกจากงาน ในตอนนั้นเองผมได้ยินเกี่ยวกับรายการ Show Me The Money ที่จะเกิดขึ้นใน LA จริงๆแล้วผมไม่ได้คิดเรื่องแรปในเกาหลีเลย ผมไม่เคยเขียนเนื้อเพลงเกาหลีด้วยเพราะภาษาเกาหลีผมแย่ ถึงผมจะมีปัญหามากมายแต่ผมก็ตัดสินใจที่จะลองหาประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆและเข้าร่วมรายการ หนึ่งเดือนหลังจากการดูละครเกาหลี ภาพยนตร์เกาหลี ข่าวเกาหลีผมเลยไปออกรายการ Show Me The Money ครับ

Q: You were selected as a winner, but too bad you've got eliminated.

Junoflo: I personally do not feel sorry for the result, because I got into Feel Ghood Music. However, after a year people still said the word "Regrets" I heard it for so many times and it was hard. There are also a few aspects for me to reentry this season to not hearing this word again. Haha"

Junoflo: Before Show Me the Money, I was happy to hear that JK hyung (Tiger) listened to my music well through Feel Ghood Music’s manager. I really liked the fact that I met JK's hyung after I’ve got eliminated. I was comfortable talking about music and life, not business. At the time, I’m also received contact from several other companies. To make good music, you have to be with the right people. The place where you’ve got the best feeling

Q: How did you feel about becoming part of Feel Ghood Music?

Junoflo: I have learned so much from JK, Busy hyung, (Yun) Mirae Nuna these three are like real genius. Just watching them work gives me a sense of music. Being in the studio with them is fun and entertaining

Junoflo: This is my decision, not the company. First, I thought I could do better than last year. As mentioned earlier, I did not want to hear the word 'sorry' anymore. (laugh). In addition, In Korea 'Showtime Money' is the show that attracts the biggest attention. I had the desire to get better feedback on that show and to make myself known more.

Junoflo: If I choose Feel Ghood Music team, I might get assaulted a lot. That is not going to happen. haha. If I got to the stage where you have to choose the producer team, I will choose another team. Collaboration with new musicians can be a good experience.

Junoflo: That's true. There were so many rappers that I can’t remember how many were coming out but I don’t care about other rappers. Instead, I want to concentrate on preparing and showing the best rap I could do.

Junoflo: There is a wide range of genres that can be divided. I like various genres of music such as Jazz, Soul, Punk, R&B, and Trap, and I also have the flexibility to match my rap with all genres. The goal is to become an artist with wide range of music in the future.

Junoflo: There was impatience after last year's Show Me the Money. Many people were interested in me, so I thought I should release the song soon. At that time, JK has advised me that it is not too late to release the song after you after you know what you can do best. That was true. If you released a song that made from hasty decision, you might regret it now. There is no hurry now. I want to make a good album after 20 years like Drunken Tiger album.

Q: Do you have any new announcement plan?

Junoflo: The work is ongoing, and I think I will be able to produce a solo album this year. I don't know whether it will be regular or mini album. The release date is likely to be the best after the end of 'Show Me Money'. I'll give you a feel good music.

Junoflo: First, "Fables", not only rap, but also have a greedy to sing. If you listen to this song, you can check out Junoflo’s rap and singing skills. Next is 'Infinite Styles', a song that shows me that I am a flexible artist with a strong Reggae sense.

Q: What does hip hop mean to Junoflo?

Junoflo: Hip hop made me a new person. In fact, I was an awful stutter in childhood. I got a little teasing about it. So I did not want to talk to people and I kept quiet. But after I started learning how to rap, I have not stuttered anymore. You know how to control your breath. I've been rapping in front of many people, and I've never felt confident before.
